Moral Panics win the right to play Blissfields

Stoke-on-Trent’s very own experimental rock group Moral Panics won the right to play at this year’s Blissfields festival in Winchester, Hampshire.

They took to the stage at the Sugarmill, Stoke-on-Trent, on Friday, April 11 to compete against four other bands in a bid to get their name on the line up at the festival.

The chemistry between these four young lads was exceptional as they worked the crowd and looked like a band that had been doing it for years.

With a sound that’s hard to put my finger on, a bit like Foals, a bit like Swim Deep, this four-piece band with a brilliant individual sound have a bright future ahead of them if they keep doing what they’re doing.

The energy of front man Daniel Johnson was admirable as he worked the stage, beat his drum and even ran up to the balcony to keep the crowd on their toes and excited.

Their new single ‘February’ is a huge hit and on the night I think was the icing on the cake of a remarkable performance worthy of winning any music competition.

Coming on second out five acts was always going to be a dodgy one, as the three later bands would know what they’d have to do to upstage them but they took it in their stride and got on with it, given an epic performance.

In the past Blissfields has been the making of new music for some years with the likes of Bastille, Mumford & Sons, Mystery Jets and Ben Howard performing their early material at the festival.

It doesn’t matter what you’re in to as there is something for everyone with their soundscape being one of pop, rock, indie, folk, dance and electronic.

Moral Panics’ EP ‘WLVS’ is out now and I recommend you buy it. The future of music looks bright if bands such as these are around and I hope and pray they don’t go under the radar.

These lads should be signed.
